Our organ – an instrument from the 19th Century – played a huge role in the construction of the escape tunnel, which was dug by French prisoners in 1941. Playing the organ was intended to drown out the noises from tunnel building. The organist could turn out the light for the tunnel diggers using a signal device. This is how to told the escapees to fall silent if guards were carrying out checks in the chapel. The signal device was disguised as a mouse trap and it can still be seen today in the Escape Museum.

Together with you we want to bring the Colditz organ back to life. Help us and sponsor one of the organ pipes! After the war, the castle organ fell into decay and was partially looted. To completely restore the organ, about 180,000 euros are still missing. Help us to rebuild the organ and restore the heart of the castle chapel!
