Youth Hostel Colditz
Colditz Castle on the Zwickau Mulde is almost 1000 years old and is therefore one of Saxony’s oldest castles. New international life has come to Colditz Castle in the form of the European Youth Hostel Colditz Castle.
From 1939 to 1945, Colditz Castle was a prisoner of war camp for allied officers. Colditz was deemed entirely escape-proof. However, the inmates managed to disprove the theory. Exhibitions in the castle tell of ingenuity and numerous escape attempts.
