Colditz is located in the heart of Saxony, between the cities of Leipzig, Dresden, and Chemnitz, directly on the banks of the Mulde River. It is an ideal starting point for exploring Saxony and the Saxon Castle and Heathland region.
High above the town stands the famous and almost thousand-year-old Colditz Castle. Today, it is home not only to a museum and the Saxony State Music Academy, but also to the Colditz Youth Hostel. If you have ever wanted to spend a night in a real castle, this is the perfect place. The hostel offers 171 beds in 34 rooms, all equipped with a private bathroom.
However, Colditz has much more to offer its visitors. The market square and the surrounding streets have their own unique charm, especially thanks to the authentically restored historic townhouses and the Renaissance-style town hall. The nearby Colditz Forest is perfect for hiking and enjoying nature. From the Heimatturm, visitors can enjoy a wonderful view over the town, the river, and the surrounding forest. The Mulde River can also be explored on a rafting or inflatable boat tour.
